Community Assets in Gellerup

This project makes visible the relationship between associations, local groups, activities and people living in Gellerup, Denmark. Though the act of mapping, the aim is to understand how residents are affected by overarching political decision making, construction projects and economic events that have occurred since the idea of Gellerup “city” emerged in the 1950s.

Community Asset

This map charts the impact that these events have had on community assets and cultural institutions in Gellerup and how they have been radically altered by the self-referential “Hard Ghetto” narrative which both demonises and catalyses radical cultural and societal change in a this rare, culturally diverse suburb of Aarhus.
